Obelisk – A tapering stone pillar, set up as a monument or landmark. Obelisks are most commonly four sided commemorative structures, which were believed to attract the reviving rays of the sun.
When we moved to Perthshire in October 2022 we discovered many wonderful walks, right on our doorstep, including one that took us up Craig Gibbon hill. Hidden in the trees, on the hill, is an Obelisk that was erected in the 1800’s by Colonel Mercer, a monument to allow him to look out over his estate from all four sides.
My inerpretation of the Obelisk is, of course, a hand carved heart! In this case a solid 9ct yellow gold 3D heart. The heart is 5mm in height, 5mm in width and 4mm thick and sits proud on a chunky 3.5mm thick solid sterling silver ring.
