The sweetest heart, not just by name, because of how it looks and how it feels to hold it or to wear it.
I was watching a movie, I have tried to remember which one but I have no idea what it was, and a character in the movie was wearing a heart pendant on a beaded necklace. The heart was shaped like my Cupid Heart but was more 3D and rounded. It looked beautifully tactile and the bail was set into the dip in the top of the heart. The beaded chain was made of glass beads, all different colours, and sat on the neckline.
I got my wax out and started to carve. Wax carving is a bit of a love of mine and, although I am not always successful at creating what is in my imagination, I get so much pleasure satisfaction from whittling away a piece of wax. This time I carved exactly what I wanted and on the first attempt too.
The next part of this creation was to sand cast the wax heart in solid sterling silver. This involves a lot of heat and using up pieces of my scrap silver, end cuts of clean sterling silver sheet and wire that I collect from making lots of other pieces of jewellery, to finally create an exact replica of the wax carved form in metal. I then soldered a small circular bail for the chain to run through, just at the dip of the heart.
I have to say I am so pleased with how this ‘sweet’ heart turned out and I am delighted to be able to share it with you all now. It measures approximately 15mm x 15mm at its widest points and is around 5mm thick in the centre. The pendant weighs 7.2g and is hallmarked on one side.
This heart is hung on a solid sterling silver ball chain and you can choose the 16″ or 18″ length of chain in the drop down box.
Solid sterling silver and hallmarked in Edinburgh.
The Sweetheart Necklace will arrive in a Silverpickle gift box, tied with ribbon and includes little polishing cloth.
